INCREASE IN HOMICIDES IN TIJUANA BY 23 % COMPARED TO 2014 SEVEN MONTH PERIOD...BUT LOOK AT THE OTHER YEARS COMPARISONS - 08/25: EXECUTIONS CONTINUE: GUNMEN OPEN FIRE IN FRONT OF FUNERAL HOME ZONA CENTRO- AT LEAST 8 DEAD IN TIJ MANY WOUNDED IN ONE DAY

On Saturday the 22nd, reporters interviewed both the Mayor and Chief of Police of Tijuana, the subject naturally was the state of security in the city.  The Mayor indicated there would be no changes of personnel within the Police Department, however Police Chief Lares Valladares said that the homicides in the city of Tijuana were in decline. I initially saw this article last Saturday on the internet, but I was unable to find it again.  But here it is - you can do a search yourself for Ediciones Impresa on El Mexicano:

El Mexicano: Edicion Impresa Sabado 22 de Agosto de 2015: "No Habra Cambios en Seguridad: Alcalde" por, Hilario Ochoa Movis.

According to El Mexicano contrary to the statements made by Tijuana Police Chief Alejandro Lares Valladares, based on statistics from both the SSPE and the CCSP, the homicides have actually increased in the city of Tijuana by 23% compared to the same time period of 2014.

In the first seven months of this year, 353 homicides have taken place in the city of Tijuana - compared to last year (2014) the same time period, 287 cases were reported. The official statistics from the SSPM show from January to the end of July this year:

 - There have been 99 cases of deprivations of liberty.

 - This year during the seven month increment has been more violent than 2007 (with 193 homicides ).

 - This year during the seven month increment has been more violent than 2008 (with 287
homicides ).

 - This year during the seven month increment has been more violent than 2009, but just barely this is neck and neck (with 334
homicides).

 - This year during the seven month increment has been less violent than 2010 (with 481
homicides). *Remember when the promoters were saying nothing was really going on in Tijuana in 2010?

 - The stats from both the CCSP and the SSPE show then that this year during the seven month increment, the homicides were down 26% compared to 2010; but increased 59% compared to 2012.

 - The colonias where the majority of homicides occur so far are Buena Vista, Sanchez Taboada, Zona Norte, Las Torres, Ciudad Industrial and Salvatierra.

 - The good news is that the vehicle thefts (3,279), home robberies (2,590), commercial robberies (1,313), robbery with violence (1,234) and kidnappings (6) are in decline.

A comparative analysis of the seven month increment was not reported for the years 2011, 2012 and 2013.  Here are those stats:

 -  This year during the seven month increment has been more violent than 2011 (with 269 homicides).

 - This year during the seven month increment has been more violent that 2012 (with 197 homicides).

 - This year during the seven month increment has been more violent than 2013 (with 292 homicides).

All of these statistics are available to the public through  the SSPE.  You can again, go to this link, scroll to "Incidencia Delictiva" and review them:

Many angry comments after this El Mexicano article:

El Mexicano

Incrementan un 23% homicidios en Tijuana

No one is certain when the executions will end, but my neighbor said something that was bizarre, he said: "....did you ever think that maybe this was all a set up - that El Mono, the brother of El Melvin and others were killed on purpose by a third party so that another war would break out between these two cartel or narcomenudista groups [Sinaloa vs CAF] so that they would wipe each other out?"  No, I never thought that, but I thought I would mention what some people are thinking.  So, we'll wait and see what the authorities have to say, what Zeta's input will be and of course just watch from the sidelines. I need to add that so far the authorities have consistently denied the existence of the CJNG in our region.

 - Tijuana: All agencies report that two are dead and seven injured ( With the exception of Zeta who reports two are dead nine are injured) after an attack on the funeral home "La Esperanza" in the Zona Centro shortly before midnight last night.  The people at the funeral home were attending a service for the two young men who were executed last Wednesday. Many pics on AFN. * Note that most agencies are changing initial reports to nine injured, not seven.

El Mexicano reports that witnesses identified the attackers who were aboard a vehicle and opened fire with AK-47's on the group of people and the funeral building as members of the group "Los Holligons" who allegedly have been linked to the theft of motorcycles in the US and drug trafficking. The two men who died were described as "motorcyclists".

El Mexicano add another one from today, plus an updated report on the attack at the funeral home:

 - Tijuana: In colonia Roberto Yahuaca of San Antonio de los Buenos one man located beaten to death.

These are all just narcomenudistas ?

Meanwhile, the executions did continue over the weekend, but not as with such a punch or heavy toll as have been previously noted which could be an indication of a slow down - and would make everyone feel better because for one thing, we're not really supposed to be talking about this, right?

08/23:

 - Mexicali:  Reported 08/24; residents locate a body in the boundary region of Ejido Irapuato of the Mexicali Valley on Sunday in a state of decomposition with four holes in the head and one in the jaw - so the report says, presumably this was an execution.

 - Tijuana:  Sunday morning one man shot and killed in front of the "Del Dia" grocery store in Altamira - this is Canon K, Zona Centro.

08/22:

 - Tijuana:  In full public view early afternoon three armed men gun down a brother and sister in ejido Francisco Villa (La Presa).

I'll be back, I have a few updates on the Jornaleros of San Quintin which I'll put in a new blog.  Also, I'm sort of getting over the squirrel family (not completely); the Muffin and I are getting into garden gnomes now although it is old hat, the best gnomes we think are the olden ones, but they are pricey.  I just hope that ours won't be "liberated" - although I have not read any reports of gnomes being "liberated" in Mexico.
