Paris Update: The Fourth Week ! Melania Trump's Tacky Christmas Decorations ! - UPDATE 11/28: 8:00am Frontera Reports 141 Dead this Month of November in TIJ, The YTD Total Just in Tijuana Stands at 1,591 More Coming In By The Hour

Before we get going here, have any of you seen Melania Trumps version of decorating the White House for Christmas? I caught a glimpse this morning.

My first reaction was Christ Melania, how many Christmas trees do you need ? Tacky !  Talk about ostentatious; but then here are even better reactions:

Paris Updates:

On 11/16 Paris had another xray and bandage change and check up at VCA in San Diego.  We had a consultation with Dr. Jackson who is pleased with the surgery outcome.  She is still on stilts, we had a week respite from appointments - are returning this week for another xray, bandage change and check up. She finished all of her meds with the exception of the pain medicine which has been cut in half and had to start apoquil again due to itching from the dust.

She does get up and walks around a bit, but cannot stand alone on all four legs for a long period of time, so the hand feeding/watering continues.  Our routine is that I lift her out of bed in the morning, lift her down the steps and outside where Bob the Daca cat is waiting for her and she goes tinkle. Usually during the day, I get her outside by lifting her down and up the steps at least three more times so she can practice her walking and get some fresh air. Around noonish she has a snack, but this is becoming a bit more difficult because she is beginning to show initial signs of displeasure or defiance and tries to jump off the sofa, wiggles out of her combat gear and growls. But I can't put her in the "cage" (I think it would freak her out too much) so this has become a full time job watching over her every minute. I honestly do not have time for anything else, including the last ten posts by Louis Proyect, etc. oh well. Dr. Beth told Mike this was a very serious operation and that no one can really tell you about the care giving for recovery until you've been through it yourself.  There has been talk about the government shutting down because Trump is such a flake (and now is blaming the Democrats who are also flakes) and I thought selfishly, oh good Mike can be home and help me - nope, his position is
exempt.

She also becomes irritated by Bob who wants to play and we have to keep all doors closed so she doesn't fall down the steps - and she has tried to make a run for it several times. When Mike comes home, I get time out and take a half hour medio sueno, Paris hobbles down the hallway and gets into bed with me, darn cute.

In the evening we put her up on the sofa again for dinner, she likes to watch BBC News. There's a final trip outside then to bed with Mike.

She gets a wipe-down every day and her ears cleaned, there is tons of dust here due to the construction around us.

So here are some pics:

Bob wants her combat gear, says it is too scary to live here

Bob is an incredibly bad influence on Paris, constantly urging her to break out, break on through to the other side, join up with his wild feral gang and be free. What are we going to do about Bob ?

What happened to the drug war ?

I will be back tonight after midnight some time ---correction this week at some point (we have three appointments this week)) to update more comprehensively the drug war/violence situation here which is  bad.

UPDATE/EDIT 11/28:

 -  Tijuana:  This morning Frontera reports the killings over last weekend and into the beginning of the week in Tijuana.  At 8:02 am the official number of violent deaths in Tijuana stands at 141 this month of November, bringing the YTD total just in Tijuana to 1,591 dead:

When you go to Frontera's Twitter and hit the link to the report, above the report is a ticker tape which brings you up to date with the current homicidio dolosos as they are coming in, these generally cover all of Baja California; included are shoot outs between armed groups of men and between armed groups (Rosarito) and the authorities:

FRONTERA POLICIACA (@ FRONTERA_POL) twitter

Rosarito Beach has had a rash of killings, another kidnapping, another killing in San Quintin and another clandestine airstrip located in Ensenada (K70).  Many seizures and arrests, but keep in mind, those are just the tip of the iceberg.

Paris Surgery Recovery: First Week Report - RED ALERT: Tijuana Exceeds 1,500 YTD Executions This Weekend

Paris has been a full time job during her post operative recovery, she will have to wear her harness (Mike calls it her combat gear) for the next seven weeks.  She went into the VCA on last Friday for her first bandage change and x-ray - so far so good; this upcoming week she goes back up again for another bandage change and x-ray. We are weaning her off of the pain medication -  up until this weekend have been hand feeding her and holding her water in a little bowl for her to drink.  There have been no negative reactions to the med for inflammation and no need to give her tranquilizers, she finished her antibiotic. She cannot stand the crate-cage we bought her to keep her in when she can't be watched for short periods of time, so probably will have to take that back.

There was a break through this weekend, she actually sat up and got out of her bed !  She was able to walk just a bit (about five feet ) then falls, but pulls herself up and starts again.  She also started eating mostly on her own this weekend - we put her up on the sofa for her meals, sit next to her and hold her dish for her.  Her appetite is increasing, and her most favorite is chicken from "Pollo Asil" in Rosarito which I take off the bone and mix with rice.  Tonight she had pot roast from Sprouts, roast white potatoes and one carrot and four Wolf biscuits and we finally finished watching BBC's "The Last Post."

She has been a stellar patient with the exception of she growled at Mike when he put her soft collar back on tonight after dinner.  We are now beginning the second week of care giving and have six more to go then a four week monitor take it easy period with very short walkies down the block. Mike took some pictures, but he has to upload them off of his phone, as soon as he does I'll post them.  Bob the Daca cat slept in the house last night waiting for Paris to get up, evenings are getting cool on the coast...and basically along with my neighbors we feel like prisoners in our homes due to the never ending drug war violence which surrounds us.  And, we've all felt that way for a very long time.

Adding this....

11/12/17 Headlines

Just about the only time I have to catch up on all of the news is late at night after Mike and Paris are asleep, however once in a blue moon I can get down here. Every time we take Paris up to San Diego we wind up talking to people at the Hospital and different stores about the violence here, and believe it or not most people (except the Mexican Americans) are completely unaware of the situation in Tijuana, in Baja California and in Mexico.

Frontera's headline says it all, and I don't feel that they or the other news services are being alarmist - it is the reality. Over the weekend, Tijuana alone exceeded 1,500 homicidio dolosos/executions since the beginning of this year according to the authorities and is now considered the most violent city in Mexico. The war between the Sinaloa Cartel vs. the CJNG and their allies (CAF, Tijuana Cartel) continues.

So to keep you up to speed here is Frontera's Policiaca twitter, the only one not listed so far and it probably will be soon is the gringo shot at the restaurant on Blvd. Insurgentes whose condition is listed as delicate. Close by, one executed in Real del Mar across the road and just a couple of weeks ago, three bodies located in the barranca at Punta Bandera up the road - so far I've only seen Zeta point out that specific location.  As you will see, Rosarito has had an uptick in executions as well as Tecate, another in San Quintin, Ensenada:

Paris: Snowballs and Liverwurst

Just dropping in quickly to give a Paris update.  This BTW is the first time I've been able to sit down and review the news, another mass shooting as you all know in Texas - so what's new ? Read my lips, this latest event will not inspire new gun control laws in the United States.  I mentioned we and many of our neighbors think Tijuana, Baja California and Mexico are dangerous - so is the United States.

Paris had two elbow dysplasia arthroscopies and two ulma ostectomies on her front legs.  This was a genetic condition she had which is common in Basset Hounds.  The purpose of the operation was not to straighten her legs out, but a preventative measure to forestall disabling arthritis, which could eventually cripple the dog and as many of you know is horrible to treat.

Both of her front legs are in splints, she is wearing a harness which we use to pick her up, so far she is only taking  little tiny baby steps then falls flat like a penguin. We have to hand feed her and make sure she takes water and she is on about five different medications.  She is not in pain, one of the meds takes care of that (it is also addictive) - but she whimpers when she needs to tinkle. So far, no accidents in the house. The Doc gave us tranquilizers to use, but we are holding off on those, we may need them in a few weeks - but with tranquilizers sometimes the dog becomes irritated and one person told us hostile and you do have to increase the dose - so hopefully we won't have to use them.

She has been pretty good with everything, with the exception of not going poo, so we might have to take her in for an enema.  She is not eating huge amounts; I've been making Basamati rice, baked chicken and Mike bought her special prime rib steaks.  She loves baked sweet potatoes. The trick will be to get her to eat her Buffalo kibbles which should help her bowels. She cries for her Wolf bison biscuits, but I have to break them into quarters for her.

When Freida was sick, we discovered the good use of liverwurst, because we could wrap pills up into the liverwurst making little liverwurst balls and she would eat them - same with Paris. Today I developed "snowballs" which  is Philadelphia cream cheese rolled in rice with tidbits of meat and chicken inside.  She loved them. Next step will be to add kibbles to the snowballs.

The ramps Mike made were a bust - too steep - so we have to hoist her down the steps, but the guard rails he put in are great.  She did take a sun bath, Bob the Daca cat visits regularly (plus he gets all the leftover chicken and steak), and she sleeps a lot. We put her up on the sofa twice, but we have to be next to her so she doesn't fall.  During the day she either sleeps in her bed upstairs or the one downstairs.  At night, she sleeps with us.  We're going to have to get a pen enclosure this week for the living room which will be large enough for her huge bagel bed to fit in and roomy so she doesn't feel completely confined. And she loves to have her face wiped with the awapui towels.  She hates the Elizabethan collar, tomorrow her soft collar we ordered should be in the mail. Periodically I take the collar off, but really have to watch her because she goes after the bandages and tries to pull them off.

The whole healing process will take twelve weeks, with the splints coming off week at eight weeks then taking it easy for another four weeks - along with weekly checkups, x-rays, bandage changes and pin removals. Unsure of when she will start eating and drinking on her own, or for that matter actually walking on the stilts.

I'll be adding pictures, and returning to the blog when everyone is used to the new schedule around here, which completely centers around Paris.

Oh and P.S. be careful if you decide to copy and paste anything from the Santa Cruz radical guys, you can link but not copy and paste because there is some kind of code which will screw up your blog, I just discovered this late late last night. So at any rate, I had to remove the copy and paste but kept the link.

Take care everyone....and no I guess we're not going to be decorating for Christmas, maybe we'll dress Paris and Bob the Daca cat up as reindeer. Exhausted here.

The Trump-Russia Affair - UPDATE 11/01: Adding the September 2017 CCSP TIJ Crime Report For "Anonymous" - Paris in Hospital - Update 11/02: NewsFlash ! Picture of Paris !

From the Real News:

'James S. Henry is an investigative economist and lawyer, a Global Justice Fellow at Yale University, and a Senior Advisor at the Tax Justice Network. Previously, James served as Chief Economist at the international consultancy firm McKinsey & Co. As an investigative journalist his work has appeared in numerous publications like Forbes, The Nation and The New York Times.'

"What I would say about the overall story here is that this is, as Churchill said, this is not the end or even the beginning of the end, but it is an indication that we are going to have to, all of us who are specialists in this investigation have to discount a little bit about our natural interest in all these details because I'm concerned at the end of the day, the American people have to get onboard and figure out that all of this stuff in these indictments constitutes something that they want the president removed for. An impeachable offense requires a new Congress, probably, and a whole lot more democratic senators, and that's not going to happen for a while. So, Mueller's strategy is just beginning and this is going to roll out over a long period of time, so it's kind of premature to characterize this as the fatal blow that will be struck against Trump, but I think it's a good start."

Panic In Trumpland, But Clinton Camp Should Be Wary
by, Bill Blum

Reading through hundreds of comments from both the conventional corporate media to the most progressive of course there are the die hard Hillary fans, the maniac Trump fans both of whom sincerely believe the system still works and that we will be freed of Trump or that he will be vindicated.  In between the lines, you will see many more like this one (which most likely will not get coverage in the Mexican press):

"This is just a small example of what rich people do; despite making millions by wheeling and dealing (rather than honest productive work or performing a useful service); they still get YOUR politicians to write laws allowing them to avoid taxes. Trump actually said it live on TV when it was alluded that he paid no tax, he said and I quote..(that makes me smart)..NO, it makes you an amoral scumbag! Clinton is no different and Obama spends his time collecting big dollars for speeches while he waits for the millions to come from his and his wife’s books. These scum have been exploiting the long suffering working class for millennia and will continue as long as workers believe in the invisible man in the sky and other nonsense like their leaders are honorable people, they are scum."

Meanwhile, Paris goes in to San Diego to the VCA for her operation on Wednesday, so have been busy getting things ready around here. We'll pick her up on Thursday. The electricity was out here as usual the first day for over twelve hours, the next day for six hours which pissed my neighbors off.  It was a good thing this happened after the heat wave.   A strong, long lingering and putrid raw sewage smell coming from the barranca knocked us off our toes, just another reminder not to go in the ocean and who cares anymore if your view is blocked - who wants to look at a sewage dump ?  Nothing changes.

Zeta has reported over 160 executions in Tijuana this month of October, I'll be back with those stats and more on the Municipalities in the next couple of days.

An anonymous person left a message here a few days back which I didn't publish, I deleted it because this person wanted my opinion on if I thought Tijuana is dangerous - plus it was not about the subject matter of that particular blog.  I'm sorry now I deleted the comment.  Yes, I think it is dangerous. And, there simply is no argument against that, it is dangerous end of story. The Guardian has a key question running - "What is it that you regret in life ?"  Our biggest regret is that we ever moved to Mexico.

I need to add that there are seven other households which we know of aside from ours at SADM and this is a mix of Mexican Nationals, Mexican-Americans and Gringos (in the minority);  all of these people - most of them who have lived in SADM going back at least twenty years not only want to leave SADM, but they want to leave Baja California and Mexico due to the insecurity, environmental, political and social issues with insecurity and impunity taking first place. These are North end households, we don't know anyone at the south end.

It's a real heartbreaker.

**********

Update/edit 11/01:

 - First, Paris had her operation today,  (I'll explain everything later it was complicated) she is in the VCA Hospital in San Diego.  Ramps are up, bed off frame and we pick her up tomorrow afternoon. Her front legs are in splints; she goes back every week for the next eight weeks for bandage changes, x-rays and pin removal.  This was like going to the Mayo clinic.

 - Next, I wanted to add the CCSP Report for Tijuana for September 2017 for the "anonymous" poster who wanted to know if TIJ was dangerous.

I just copied & pasted this:
