Okay I was wrong yesterday saying that Trump was on a 'if you can't beat them, join them' strategy. I based that on Trump himself saying that now he "gets COVID" to be taken as now his understands the severity of COVID because he said that now he "understands" the virus in addition to his campaign staff just lying up a storm saying that Trump and his team basically never underscored the danger of COVID and ALWAYS practiced the guidelines to fighting it. (See interview on yesterday's blog)
Today is a completely different story: Trump has now tweeted that people should not be afraid of COVID and it should not control their lives. This in itself shows complete disdain for and is an insult to the 210,000 Americans who have suffered and died. Once again this denial is reckless and irresponsible. So we are back to square one, with once again Trump minimizing the deadly disease. His so-called team has also put announcements out that Trump knows more about COVID than Biden because he has experienced it first hand.
Next, the biggie: Trump the macho man is demanding that he leaves the hospital . Enclosed on the links are the statements from Dr. Fauci on how long people who have the virus should be hospitalized , Doctor's statement from Walter Reed Hospital, and many more including the statements from the Secret Service agents regarding Trump's bullshit parade yesterday. Also, more people at the White House are showing positive test results, they are infected .
The best reaction I think so far was from this morning , the interview with Carl Bernstein. As soon as it comes up on the internet, I'll post it.
UPDATE/edit: Here is that clip/interview... and Bernstein is right:
Well, he is back and wasn't that the most bizarre thing you have ever witnessed? I'm exhausted. It was bad enough he removed his mask jaw jutting, standing there like the Hulk and went inside to expose and contaminate more people, it was even weirder when he did a take-two for a reinactment with special touches.
I knew by just looking at him something was really wrong - and yes, he was on steriods. Trump on steriods - it is amazing he hasn't blown out his entire system and just popped, just like that. Check it out:

Covering a coverup
On Sunday I said we are covering a possible coverup about the president's health, a possible coverup being led by the president from his hospital room. I need to amend that statement. Cut the word "possible." There is an obvious coverup underway, and reporters are chipping away at it, trying to get to the truth.
The clearest evidence of a coverup is the White House's refusal to share Trump's testing history. When was the date of Trump's last negative test? Yahoo's Hunter Walker and other reporters asked on Monday, but Dr. Sean Conley said "I don't want to go backward."
"That's something that a press secretary says, not something a doctor says," Jake Tapper pointed out afterward. Since no one in Trump's orbit will answer, it seems fair to conclude that the answer is embarrassing. He was required to be tested before last Tuesday's debate — and his campaign told the debate commission that he was tested – so did someone lie to the commission?
CNN's John Harwoodsaid the non-answers indicate that "they've been lying about the frequency of his testing, including whether he was tested before debating" Joe Biden, or that "he tested positive earlier than they've acknowledged, which was two days after debate."
In a bigger-picture sense, Trump is also covering up the reality of Covid-19. He is resuming his coronavirus denialism while he's still hobbled by the disease...
"What a bunch of bullshit"
That's what Chris Cuomo said at the start of "Cuomo Prime Time."
"Want to know the truth?" he said. "The virus is the truth. The virus doesn’t care about left and right. The virus does what’s reasonable. You give me a chance I will spread. You keep away from me, you don’t give me a chance. I run out of hosts. I die. I’m the truth. If you are doing the right thing, you don’t see me that much. If you are doing the wrong thing, you do."
A photo op and a power trip
IMHO, Trump's looks-like-victory flight home to the White House made sense through this prism: Every day is a TV show, he's the producer and the star, and he'll figure out some new show to produce tomorrow. He's not thinking a week or two ahead. He's certainly not trying to be a role model. In the words of this Axios headline, he is viewing "each day as TV episode."
By that weak standard, he succeeded on Monday. "That is the shot the President wants for the front page of the newspapers," Norah O'Donnell said on CBS as Trump arrived back home. It was, I said on CNN, a literal POWER TRIP – the live shot of the Marine One flight showed symbols of his power, including the Pentagon – and it called to mind his use of the South Lawn for his RNC acceptance speech. But the visuals did not match reality...

So now obviously Trump has finally put his latest scheme together like Side Show Bob: If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. From this point forward I predict we will be hearing from Trump nothing but how important and necessary wearing a mask is, social distancing, the whole nine yards - everything the experts like Dr. Fauci have been saying for months and months or the complete opposite of what Trump has been saying for months and months. He will turn over a new leaf, but he won't mean a single word of it despite actually having COVID - and he will never apologize for everything he did wrong with the virus. He will be doing a complete about face only to save face and to be re-elected. . "If you can’t beat them, join them usually means if you can not defeat your opponent, you may as well join forces with him in order to have at least a modicum of control of the situation. An alternate meaning of if you can’t beat them, join them is the advice to adopt the methods that your opponent is using in a situation, but not necessarily the goals. In this case, if you can’t beat them, join them has a similar meaning to the phrase beat someone at his own game. Usage of the phrase if you can’t beat them, join them may be good-natured, deferring to the will of the group, or it may be a warning that the conflict is about to become more intense. If you can’t beat them join them is American English, though its etymology is shrouded in mystery. The earliest known use of the term is in the Atlantic Monthly magazine, in 1932. Senator James E. Watson listed the term as one of his favorite maxims, which means it was in use for some period of time before 1932. The exact quote is “If you can’t lick ’em, jine ’em.” This is a rendering of the phrase with slang terminology, used to communicate in specialized situations. The phrase if you can’t lick them, join them is still occasionally seen, but the word lick to mean defeat is not used as often as it once was. If you can’t beat them, join them is a proverb that is often quoted as pragmatic advice for those in politics. "

How Trump gave $1 bn allocated for Masks for Troops, Families, to Arms Firms Instead
"(Foreign Policy in Focus) – As the pandemic continues to claim lives across the country, new information keeps coming out about how the Trump administration has made it harder for Americans to protect themselves.
We now know, for example, that early in the pandemic the U.S. Postal Service had planned to deliver five face masks to every U.S. household. It could have made mask-wearing a lot more common a lot earlier — and maybe saved a lot of lives. But the White House scrapped the idea.
Now we also know that the Trump administration took $1 billion in stimulus funds that were supposed to go towards making masks and other protective equipment for the pandemic — and gave most of it to weapons manufacturers.
Those funds were part of $10.6 billion in CARES Act money allocated to the Pentagon — a staggering sum, especially since the bloated military budget already claims 53 cents of every discretionary federal dollar available to Congress.
The $1 billion in question was granted under a special law that lets the Pentagon require companies to manufacture urgently needed goods in case of a national emergency. This time, it was to make sure companies producing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), like N-95 masks, ventilators, and more, were making all they could.
But most of that money didn’t go to making PPE at all. Trump’s defense department gave it to corporations that make jet engines, drone flight controllers, and dress uniforms for the military. Two-thirds of it was distributed in big contracts worth more than $5 million each.
The military says that the “health” of the defense industry is crucial to national security. But the CARES Act money was specifically allocated to protect the health of the people of this country — not the companies that build weapons.
This comes at a moment when U.S. military spending is already near all-time highs — and when military contractors are doing better than lots of other companies.
“Major defense contractors such as Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, and Northrop Grumman,” the Washington Post reports, “have remained financially healthy despite some pandemic-related disruption, and have continued to pay stock dividends to investors.”
Indeed, the CEOs of those companies rank among the highest paid corporate executives in the country. Last year General Dynamics’s CEO raked in $18 million, Northrup Grumman’s made $20 million, and Lockheed-Martin’s pulled in a whopping $31 million.
Still, many of those same military corporations paid out of the $1 billion Pentagon slush fund also applied for — and received — funds from the federal Paycheck Protection Program that Congress designated specifically to prevent COVID-related lay-offs. These extra Pentagon grants came on top of that, except without any requirements to protect jobs. Those companies could take the money and still fire as many employees as they want.
What makes us safer in the pandemic — access to more testing and a lot more face masks, or helping military corporations and their CEOs make a killing on our tax money?
Add that to the canceled Postal Service plan to distribute hundreds of millions more masks, and the record keeps getting more appalling. Make no mistake: The Trump administration’s heartlessness and militarism are costing lives."

It's been crazy around here; since Mike is working from home, he gets up super early and digs in, then crashes with Paris just before noon due to his pain. Still, he always leaves me a note. This morning, he filled me in on Trump's condition:
" Changed the water. Totsie and Rubio shared 1 can of salmon and dry, remainder in refrig. No pee pee in the house, or poo. Poo outside, picked it up. Didn't wash off the patio. Short walk with Paris . Need tortillas for enchiladas. Trump is still alive."
BTW yes that is chicken-of-the-sea salmon in H20 just for the kids. But I choked on my coffee when I read the Trump update. Thanks for the laugh Mike, he is hilariously sarcastic.
So, here are the updates...more are biting the dust (infected with COVID) in D.C. after Trump's super-spreader event with Amy and at some point I'll be back with the local drug-war casualties...although noticeably, no in depth local coverage of the Washington D.C. Meltdown . Maybe someone should use that headline: Trump Is Still Alive. lmfao.

"With President Donald Trump hospitalized for Covid-19, more cases are beginning to emerge in the White House and in his close circles.
Here's what you need to know:
Who has been infected: Trump, first lady Melania Trump, top aide Hope Hicks, former White House counselor Kellyanne Conway, Trump campaign manager Bill Stepien, and Republican Sens. Thom Tillis and Mike Lee have all tested positive."
I'm just wondering if after fourteen days or however long it will take, he emerges and pulls a Bolsonaro...remember? Didn't Bolsonaro drop and do fifty push ups ? Or, say something like, '...there was nuthin to it, just a little runny nose !'
Or, should we expect a mea culpa ? What sort of penance would the Padre give him ? Five Hail Mary's and Five Our Father's ? How about time out in an ICE facility (hopefully in a cage) with no special privileges??
Wait...what if he recovers, gets down on his hands and knees and begs our forgiveness? And then, people feel sorry for him and he is re-elected? This could really turn into the Nightmare Before Christmas !
From earlier this evening:
~~~~~
Terrible shame that he discouraged staff & aides at the White House to NOT wear masks & made fun of Joe Biden and everyone else for always wearing one. Lied to us about the virus from the get go; thought he was smarter than the experts and currently manipulates scientific evidence and cooks the books to make it appear he has the upper hand in the matter, silenced the professionals. Unfortunately for thousands and thousands of people, squashed supplying masks nationwide, refused to help the States finance the safe re-opening of schools, offered no help to the people of color who suffer a significant higher rate of infection, from the beginning emptied and closed the research facilities established by Obama whose specialty & thrust was viruses & virus outbreaks, blamed Obama for low supplies of PPE . Held numerous enclosed rallies and brainwashed his supporters not to worry about the virus because he was doing such a great job, later many were shown to be infected, one death as we know of it. Not to mention minimizing the 200,000 plus dead in the United States from the virus...or the fact that he and the GOP are so cheap, they refuse to pass another stimulus bill to help people recover while they are out of work, losing their homes and fucking sick....what was it, 800,000+ more just applied for unemployment ? And continues to lie about the virus when experts are telling us a looming crisis lies ahead, again lies repeatedly and gives false hope about a vaccine. By the end of October he says...oh bullshit.
He is so disinterested in the health of the American public that he is just dying to obliterate the Affordable Care Act and kick over 20,000,000 (twenty +) million people out on the streets (with the help of Amy Coney Barrett and Mitch McConnell) with no health care whatsoever and leave them there to rot. He has no National Health Care Plan, even though he promised one way back THREE-FOUR YEARS AGO, NOTHING !!
CHARITY
"And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.-I COR. xiii. 13."
How can you be charitable to a monster ? I know, it's a Christian thing to do, to be charitable, but I can't do it in the case of Trump. I cannot send him get well wishes. I did not feel sorry for Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini, Genghis Khan and a thousand others who were monsters; Trump falls into the same category. Why ? So they can screw you again ? And I don't feel guilty.
