200 Federal Police Deployed to Ensenada - Update: Access to La Bufadora is blocked - At 12:30 access is reopened - Update: At 1:51pm Federales have left Ensenada

Two hundred and twenty Federal Police have arrived in Ensenada in a state of guarded secrecy according to El Mexicano and are staying at the St. Nicholas Hotel.  Photographs are prohibited as a "matter of national security" and it is unclear if more Federal police will be joining their ranks.

It is also unknown at this moment if the arrival of these troops has to do with the upcoming meeting between the Jornaleros and government officials this first week of July.

Only in the movies, right ?

Meanwhile this morning in San Quintin, the offices of the Comision Estatal de Derechos Humanos ( the State Commission of Human Rights) windows had been broken out and the offices ransacked, although it seems no files or equipment was missing:

Ejidians of La Bufadora on alert:

The arrival of the Federal forces has also prompted the Ejidians of La Bufadora to mobilize once again fearing possible eviction.  They have formed two filters consisting of at this moment about 100 people on the access road to La Bufadora, not wanting to be taken by surprise if indeed the Federal Police have arrived to evict them.  Obviously the land dispute issue is not over in their minds.

The entrance access to La Bufadora has been blocked and shutdown by the Ejidians who operate the shops, this according to Darvy Battling. Unsure if that is a current picture above, but as you can see, the pluma has been lowered prohibiting tourists entry. Additionally the Ejidians have moved one of their filters or blockades 12 clicks before the entrance - no reports today on just how many people are involved in that blockade - yesterday the news services reported about one hundred people.  All this to warn tourists for their safety and to avoid the tourist buses going to La Bufadora in the event of an eviction which they have been concerned about since the arrival of the Federal police in Ensenada:

12:30pm:  In the latest report today, the Ejidians have reopened access to La Bufadora and also removed their Highway filter/blockade. This article does not report if the Ejidians somehow found out that the Federal Police were not coming to evict them, even though there is a court order to do so in the Seventh Court.

1:51 pm:  And they are gone !  El Mexicano reports that the 290 Federales according to the Director de Seguridad Publica Municipal Enrique Villarreal were supposed to be involved in a meeting with other various law enforcement agencies which did not take place.  The Federales have left Ensenada and moved on to Tijuana. The Director said to just ignore they were in Ensenada.  Or, forget about it. So, it wasn't like a drill?  Forget about it.

Over the next few days I'll return with a re-cap of the June violence in Baja California from the drug war which Zeta describes as locally, "...chaos in security and official incoordination" and throughout Mexico after the elections the "...relentless violence." And perhaps we will find out what's up with the Federal forces deployed to Ensenada.
