Well, this is a bummer and unfortunate. I lost the blog...again, it just vanished. Since it's so late I cannot retell the stories of goings on around here and why I haven't been here. Poof don't ask me, it just vanished. Maybe I've been drinking too much green tea.
Importantly though, I waited and waited and searched and searched for reactions to Zelenskyy's address to the Mexican congress, but came up with nothing. Did any of you see, read or hear anything? Maybe people were talking about it...or whispering behind closed doors. Despite running into a solid brick wall of apathy, it was a terrific speech.

Meanwhile just quickly, AMLO has COVID for the third time how weird is that, I do have stats (will provide link - we are up to about 130 executions in TIJ this month), our neighbor is having problems with her hip and goes in for a MRI this week, I had a mild infection in my lungs and was on antibiotics hiding with Paris under the blankets after all the shootings up in the States and trying to read up on and understand Hawaii and I still can't walk. But poor Yolanda, she is a Mexican citizen and a nurse working full time in the USA. Every day she has a four hour drive back and forth from here to North County; the pain pills do no good she says, and I concur. We were all going to do something fun after my knee was fixed, now I'm not too sure.
I'm beginning to wonder if there isn't some truth to the belief held by many of those disaffected in Hawaii that Pele has given the order to the Tiger sharks to kill all of the tourists. Wow, are they angry or what? Might be just another conspiracy theory, but you never know. I guess. We can talk about that one later. Wish me luck with the Morrocan chicken recipe.

Well, it was the Mexican group "Friends of Ukraine" who invited Zelenskyy. This is a tiny little group compared to the whole population, and these people are the intelligentsia.
But Volodymyr is a smart man; the address was of course a heads up to his Mexican supporters but also he was planting seeds knowing that information travels by word of mouth down here (always has done) and knowing the word will get out even if it takes forever despite the constant reinforcement of extreme indifference and resentment of the USA. He is building bridges between opposite class structures.
Deep down, the Mexican people adore strong leadership, they adored Jack Kennedy. Soon enough they will realize they have been sold down the river, but I cringe when I see that peso drop down to 16 and know this also is their measurement of credible leadership. I checked today, back up to 18 and
holding. What a mess, damned if you do damned if you don't.
Yep, bet AMLO was also pissed off.

LOL I was just really tired. OK so, what I meant and should have written was that he is building bridges between opposite class structures in Mexico.
Unfortunately down here, there is and seems like there has always been a begrudgery between the "classes" which ultimately destroys trust and unification and enables bad leadership.
Remember years ago, the student activist group, "Yo Soy 132" was dedicated to reaching out and encouraging the poorer classes to become involved in political matters and human rights, and not to be afraid to do so. But later, even the Yo Soy members were fearful for their own lives. But they really tried, I think they had some impact but clearly not enough and they understood that when classes do not stick together, you will always be left with more repression and corruption.
I said that about JFK, because yes the Mexican people want a leader, but they want one who is fair and square, honest, and compelled to help them not just with handouts, but with real change in their lives, with equality and justice.
So do we all, right?
